1997 Dodge Neon High Idle + Loss Of Power Fixed

If your 97 Neon has a high idle with loss of power, it's a fairly easy fix for the DIYer's.

When this happens your check engine light should be on. The first and easiest thing to try first is unhook the battery for 30 minutes then hook it back up.

This resets the computer and if your check engine light goes off and your high idle and loss of power is gone, then you are good to go.

If you still have the same problem, you are going to need to change your coolant temperature sensor. Alot of people think the 02 sensor is the cause for this, but it's normally the coolant temp sensor which gets overlooked.

The coolant temp. sensor is located on the drivers side of your engine pictured below.

You can get this sensor here

When changing it out make sure to put some plumbers tape around the threads to help seal it. Or you can use the liquid which works great too.

Hook your wiring back up and give it a try. You should have no check engine light and your car should run normal again.
